The road can be unpredictable. That’s why we created available Toyota Safety Sense™ 9: to help protect drivers, passengers, and pedestrians (TSS-P only) from harm. Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS) 9 is designed to help protect drivers, passengers, people in other vehicles on the road, and pedestrians (TSS-P and AHB). TSS is comprised of multi-feature active safety packages anchored by automated pre-collision wasrning and braking. TSS is designed to support the driver's awareness, decision-making and vehicle operation over a wide range of speeds under certain conditions. Packaged together in an integrated system, TSS features help address three key areas of accident protection: mitigating or preventing frontal collisions, helping to keep drivers within their lane, and enhancing road safety during nighttime driving. Always drive safely, obey traffic speed limits and laws, and focus on the road while driving.
TSS will be offered in the form of two packages: Toyota Safety Sense™ C (TSS-C) 9 for compact vehicles and Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) 9 for midsize and large vehicles.
Toyota Safety Sense™ C 9 features three proprietary active safety technologies, and combines a camera and laser for outstanding performance and reliability. The package can help mitigate or prevent collisions in a wide range of vehicle speeds under certain conditions.

With TSS-C, 9 Pre-Collision System (PCS) 10 Using an integrated camera and laser or radar to help detect other vehicles in front of you, the Pre-Collision System (PCS) 13 can prompt you to take action using audio and visual alerts if it determines a frontal collision is likely. If you notice the potential collision and apply the brakes, PCS may apply additional force using Brake Assist (BA). Under certain circumstances, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) 6 is designed to detect lane departure on roads with clear markings. LDA only activates when you’re traveling at a speed of 32 mph or faster. When you hear and see the alert, after carefully checking the road around you, you should safely direct your vehicle back to the center of your lane.
• LDA 6 is designed to function at speeds of approximately 32 mph or higher on relatively straight roadways.
In addition to the alert functions of LDA, TSS-P 9 equipped vehicles with Electronic Power Steering (EPS) will also feature a Steering Assist function (LDA w/SA). 11 When equipped and enabled, if the system determines that the vehicle is on a path to unintentionally depart from its lane, the system may provide small corrective steering inputs to the steering wheel for a short period of time to help keep the vehicle in its lane.
Automatic High Beams (AHB) 8 are a safety system designed to help you see more clearly at night—without blinding other drivers. Designed to activate at speeds above 25 mph, AHB rely on an in-vehicle camera to help detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles, then automatically toggle between high and low beams accordingly to provide the appropriate amount of light. By using high beams more frequently, the system may allow earlier detection of pedestrians and obstacles.WATCH VIDEO
Intended for highways and similar to “constant speed” cruise control, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) 12 lets you drive at a preset speed. DRCC uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control, which adjusts your speed, to help you maintain a preset distance from vehicles ahead of you that are driving at a slower speed. DRCC uses a front-grille-mounted radar and an in-vehicle camera to detect vehicles and their distance. If a driver is traveling slower than you, or within your preset range, DRCC will automatically slow your vehicle down without deactivating cruise control. If DRCC determines you need to slow down more, an audio and visual alert notifies you and brakes are applied. When there’s no longer a vehicle driving slower than your set speed in front of you, DRCC will then accelerate and regular cruise control will resume.
• DRCC 12 is designed to function at speeds of approximately 25 to 110 mph. However, vehicle speed must be above approximately 28 mph to initiate DRCC, as that is the lowest set speed.
• Starting with certain 2016 Prius models, select Toyota vehicles may also feature the new Full-Speed Range DRCC, 12 which is designed to also work at speeds below 25 mph. Full-Speed Range DRCC 12 may enable low-speed following, speed matching, stopping and acceleration/deceleration to a preceding vehicle. Full-Speed Range DRCC 12 is designed to function at speeds between approximately 0 to 110 mph and is intended for highway use.
